In my last post, I told you some of the benefits of keeping your chakras balanced and healthy. Your experience with chakra balancing will be different from mine, and anyone else’s for that matter, but what I do know to be consistent for most people is that we need to start from the bottom…at the root chakra.
The root chakra is found near the base of your spine, and vibrates to the color red. This is your energetic base. I always recommend starting with this chakra for two reasons:
1. Most people need extra work on their root chakra
2. The root chakra is your foundation: your literal root to the here and now.
If you were going to build a house, the first thing you would consider is where to build it. Just as you would not want to build your house on unstable sand or gravel, it is not a good idea to build your energetic “house” on an unbalanced root chakra. Doing so leads to feelings of being “ungrounded”. This translates into feeling flighty, spacey, nervous, anxious or irritable. You need a solid foundation, and remember, it is all about trying to achieve a state of balance.
Here are some questions to ask yourself to see if your root chakra needs some TLC:
Am I nervous or anxious much of the time?
Do I worry constantly about finances and providing for myself and my family?
Do I eat, drink or smoke too much?
Do I have trouble staying focused on my work?
Do I have frequent headaches?
Answering “yes” to a majority of these questions is a good indicator for you that it is time to work on your Root. Start by choosing your crystals to work with. Red jasper, hematite, smokey quartz, black tourmaline, or tourmalinated quartz are all good choices that are easy to obtain.
To start working with any of these root chakra stones, carry them in your pocket as you go about your work day, wear them as jewelry, or place up to three different root chakra stones on your pubic bone as you lay down and listen to a guided meditation. You can search for a guided root chakra meditation on Youtube or iTunes, and if you are new to meditation, this is the way to go!
Try this out for a few days, and note how you feel. Ask yourself the above questions again, and see if your perspective has changed at all. I am looking forward to hearing your experiences, so please do comment and share with me how it is going!
